It's a Star Trekkin' gay wedding!

ninemsn

CelebrityFIX

Here's one to tug at the ol' heartstrings - 71-year-old Star Trek star George Takei has married his partner of 21 years in a gay marriage in Los Angeles.
Just months ago, George posted on his official website that he was thrilled to finally be able to marry his partner, thanks to new laws allowing gay marriage in California.

"Our California dream is reality," he wrote. "Brad Altman and I can now marry. We are overjoyed! At long last, the barrier to full marriage rights for same-sex couples has been torn down. We are equal with all citizens of our state!"

On Sunday night, George and Brad were married at the Japanese National Museum that featured a Buddhist priest, Native American wedding bands, a Japanese Koto harp and a procession of bagpipes. Pretty rad.

To make things even awesomer, they made their entrance to the song 'One Singular Sensation' from A Chorus Line.

Check out the happy couple leaving the ceremony with a bagpipe-playing pal - sweet matching tuxes, guys!

At last: George and Brad after their wedding in Los Angeles

The pair became the first high-profile gay couple to get a marriage licence in California after the new laws came into effect. Portia and Ellen beat them to the altar, however.

Sir Paul's family: "Racked with worry"

New Idea
Sir Paul McCartney's children are "racked with worry" over death threats made against their father.

Mary, Stella, James and step-daughter Heather are all extremely concerned about the former Beatle's upcoming concert in Israel after he received murderous warnings from Islamic extremist Omar Bakri Muhammad.

The star was branded an "enemy" of all Muslims for his decision to perform in the Jewish country, but 66-year-old Paul has dismissed the threats.

A family source said: "Paul's family know he's not the type to back down but that doesn't stop them being extremely worried about him.

"It's understood his kids would prefer him not to do the show but they also accept their dad will do what he believes to be right and won't be scared off."

The music legend is due to perform at the Friendship First concert, which marks Israel's 60th anniversary, later this month. Hate preacher Bakri has revealed there are martyrs prepared to give up their lives in order to kill Paul.

Bakri was quoted as saying: "Our enemy's friend is our enemy. We have what we call 'sacrifice' operatives who will not stand by while he joins in a celebration of their oppressions.

"If he values his life Mr. McCartney must not come to Israel."

Speaking on a TV show about the possible assassination attempt, Paul said: "I was approached by different political bodies who asked me not to come here. I refused. I do what I think and I have many friends who support Israel."

Robbie Williams splits up with 'soulmate'

New Idea
Robbie Williams has split from his girlfriend.

The 'Angels' singer is reportedly heartbroken after separating from "soulmate" Ayda Field in a bid to get his ailing pop career back on track.

A source said: "Robbie is absolutely devastated the relationship has ended. He thought Ayda was his soulmate and was desperate for it to work.

"Unfortunately, the timing was not right for them and after being on-off for a while they have finally decided to call it quits. They remain friends though.

"But Robbie is dead serious about his music again, it's his number one focus. He's in the recording studio 24/7 working on his best tracks yet."

The pair's relationship allegedly hit the rocks because the 29-year-old actress wanted a partying lifestyle, whereas reclusive Robbie, 34, is only interested in spotting UFOs and playing the occasional game of golf.

A friend told a British newspaper: "Ayda wanted to go for a few more parties and meet people but Robbie has shunned the party lifestyle for a quieter, less public life. It's a blow to his whole circle but they are happy he is back to his best musically."

Robbie - who previously dated Oasis star Liam Gallagher's now wife Nicole Appleton and former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell - has been inundated with romantic offers since news spread he is single again.

The source added: "Robbie has turned down dates with loads of gorgeous girls. He won't even entertain the idea of dating someone else so soon after Ayda. He doesn't want anything to distract him from his work.

Robbie's most recent album, 2006's 'Rudebox', was both a critical and commercial flop.

Trial likely in Spears driving case

Yahoo!7
Britney Spears ' trial for driving without a valid California licence is all set for next month, and the lawyer representing her in the criminal matter says she's being treated unfairly.

J Michael Flanagan, the pop singer's lawyer, said the matter is going before a jury due to unfavourable "special treatment" by prosecutors and a judge. Because the violation is a misdemeanour, Spears is not required to attend the trial.

A judge rejected Flanagan's attempts Thursday to get the case reduced or the charge dismissed.

Flanagan has repeatedly argued that the singer is being treated more harshly than other people who have been caught driving without a valid California licence. He said under normal circumstances, Spears should be allowed to pay a $US10 ($A12.45) fine and not face criminal prosecution.

He said Thursday that Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James A Steele cited Spears' celebrity status during an in-chambers meeting as a reason for not reducing the case to an infraction.

"He says, 'But I've never done that before. I'd hate to do it the first time and do it for Britney Spears because then it would appear like she's getting special treatment,"' Flanagan recounted Steele telling him.

Steele said through a clerk that he could not comment on the conference in his chambers. A court reporter was not present for the meeting. Flanagan said he will appeal a previous ruling by the judge denying Spears' motion to dismiss the case.

If the case begins as scheduled on October 15, Flanagan said he doesn't plan to present any witnesses or do anything more than make opening and closing arguments to jurors.

"I'm just going to sit there," he said. If Spears is convicted, he said he will appeal that judgment.

The charge is the last remnant of a criminal case city prosecutors lodged against Spears after she hit a parked car in August 2007 and left without notifying the owner. She was originally also charged with hit-and-run, but Spears settled that charge through an agreement with the car's owner.

Steele is not the only one Flanagan accused of treating Spears, 26, unfairly. On Thursday he said Michael Amerian, a city prosecutor handling the case, is trying to use the matter to boost his own profile because he running to become City Attorney.

Amerian vehemently denied Flanagan's contention.

"We're treating her fairly in light of the facts in this case," Amerian said. He said he has never mentioned his bid for elected office when discussing Spears' case. He said prosecutors have been consistent on how they've handled the case since it was filed last summer.

"We're trying to treat her as we have anyone else who's been charged with a hit-and-run as well as driving without a valid licence," Amerian said.

Flanagan said prosecutors have gone to unusual lengths to try to keep the case alive, including citing Spears' divorce from ex-husband Kevin Federline . Flanagan said prosecutors noted that when Spears filed for divorce in November 2007, she had to certify she had been a California resident for at least six months.

The criminal case was filed in August 2007.

Drivers are supposed to get a California licence within 10 days of establishing residency in the state. But Flanagan said Spears had a valid licence in Louisiana, which is one of several states where the singer has homes.

The case has been repeatedly postponed since Spears was placed under the conservatorship of her father, James, in February. That arrangement means that he controls the singer's personal and financial affairs and was a result of several high-profile incidents of erratic behaviour, including two hospitalisations.

Val Kilmer the politician

New Idea
Val Kilmer is set to be the new Governor of New Mexico.

The actor - who famously starred as the Caped Crusader in 'Batman Forever' in 1995 - is the favourite to replace current governor Bill Richardson when he steps down from the position in 2011.

Richardson said: "I like the idea. Val Kilmer is a New Mexican, he was Batman. You know there have been successful actors going into politics.

"I haven't talked to him about it, I don't know how serious he is, but you know if he jumps in a race he's got name ID, so it can't be discounted." Val wouldn't be the only actor to move into politics. Arnold Schwarzenegger has been the Governor of California since 2003.

Arnie recently admitted he will have no regrets about leaving the acting industry when the fourth Terminator movie 'Terminator Salvation' is released next year.

The action hero, who appeared in the previous three sci-fi movies, said: "I've moved into other phases of my life. I moved on from bodybuilding into entertainment. Then I moved on from entertainment into a political life.

"Now this is the most exciting experience of my life. When this movie comes out, I won't be sitting there saying, 'Why can't I do that?' But I do hope it makes a lot of money and is very successful."

"F*** Disney": Megan Fox feels sorry for Miley Cyrus

CelebrityFIX
Transformers 2 babe Megan Fox isn't ashamed to say she thinks the whole Disney/Miley Cyrus/Zac Efron/Vanessa Hudgens star factory is a pile of steaming crap.
Her viewpoint on the whole Miley and Vanessa suacy photos things is, well, refreshing. "With any of the Miley Cyrus s***, or any of that Vanessa Hudgens s*** — I would never issue an apology for my life and for who I am," she told GQ magazine.

"It’s like, 'Oh, I’m sorry I took a naked, private picture that someone is an a**hole and sold for money. I’m sorry if someone else is a d***.' No. You shouldn’t have to apologize. Someone betrayed Vanessa, but no one’s angry at that person. She had to apologize. I hate Disney for making her do that. Fuck Disney."

The interviewer suggested Megan may have got herself in trouble with her anti-Disney slag fest, and Megan replied: “Yeah, that was probably a bad move—they own everything. But it’s not right.

"They take these little girls, and they put them through entertainment school and teach them to sing and dance, and make them wear belly shirts, but they won’t allow them to be their own people. It makes me sick."

She also responded to the drama surrounding a pap pic of her grabbing boyfriend Brian Austin Green's crotch in public, dismissing it as fuss over nothing.

"I don’t understand why they’re so scandalous," she said of the pictures.

"When they first came out, it was like, Megan Fox was giving Brian a blow job in pub—I mean, uh—a hand job in public. First: Who gives hand jobs? Who’s given a hand job since seventh grade? Not me.

"And who does it at a café on a public street? I touch him all the time. It’s just like, if you have a girlfriend, you grab her butt or whatever. That’s all it was, but it became a big deal. I don’t know why. For me, touching Brian’s dick for two seconds—that’s not part of our sex life. That’s me playing around; you know, you just cup it a little. For a few seconds.”

Pitt gives cash to support gay marriageSeptember

Brad Pitt has donated $US100,000 ($A126,800) to fight California's November ballot initiative that would overturn the state Supreme Court decision legalising same-sex marriage.
It is the first time voters will be asked to decide the issue in either California or Massachusetts - the states where gays have won the right to wed through rulings by state courts.
"Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn't harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8," Pitt said on Wednesday.
The ballot question known as Proposition 8 essentially will ask voters to prohibit the practice of same-sex marriage, which was approved this year by the California Supreme Court.
Trevor Neilson, Pitt's political and philanthropic adviser, told The Associated Press that Pitt was surprised that his colleagues in the entertainment industry had not donated more money to support the battle against Proposition 8.
Earlier in the week, Pitt and Angelina Jolie announced they had donated $US2 million ($A2.54 million) to help fight HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis in Ethiopia.

The Strip star lays it bare

ninemsn

It's impossible to talk about The Strip without mentioning, well, 'the strip'. The Gold Coast setting has such a strong presence in Nine's new crime drama that it should almost get a character credit.

Aaron Jeffery, who stars as hard-hitting detective Jack Cross, agrees. "Always integral to a great TV show is the character of the landscape. It gives it a different look, a different energy, a different feel." That energy flowed behind the scenes too, he says, "We shot at an incredible pace. I never stopped being on set, basically. When I wasn't on set I was sleeping. Creatively it was probably the best experience I've ever had. There was a great energy on set; it's the first time I've felt a complete ensemble with the cast and crew - we were all one unit."

Beyond being just a pretty backdrop for the drama to take place before, the Gold Coast is an intrinsic part of the stories that unfold - especially the story of Cross. Transferring north from Melbourne in the first episode, "you meet [Cross] when he's at a pretty deep ebb in his life," Jeffery explains, "[but] he's cajoled and seduced by the Gold Coast and everything that comes with it."

What it comes with is temptation, hedonism and a new partner who doesn't always share his point of view. "Cross is a romantic with old, '50s values," he says, "and [his partner, detective Frances Tully] is almost masculine in that whenever she wants sex, she just goes out and gets it."

Don't be fooled into thinking the series is all sun, sex and surf, though. Speaking about the detectives he met with to research his character, Jeffery touches on the cost they pay for doing what they do, "they are forced to go to very dark, dangerous places and they pay a price for what they do, emotionally."

His enthusiasm for The Strip is uncontainable. "With every episode we got better and better and better. You get this intense insight into the emotions of the characters as we go through," and looking back over the finished product, he adds, "I'm really proud of it and everybody who worked on it. I think we did a great job."

"There's a great through-line involving the Russian Mafia and [Cross's] nemesis - this guy called Lazar - that kicks off in episode three, which goes right through and has a massive arc at the end of the series that's really exciting," he says, teasing upcoming episodes. "There are some great action sequences and some great fight scenes. Jack Cross... when he's upset, he's really upset. That's all I can say."

A new nude photograph claimed to be of Veronicas is circulating on the net, reports The Daily Telegraph.
The newspaper has reported that the disgusted father of a young Veronicas fan tipped them off about the photo in an apparent bid to destroy the twin's tween-friendly reputation.
"The photograph... is remarkably similar to previous nude photos of Jess which were posted on the porn site, Fleshbot," reads the Telegraph story.
The picture is said to be the most explicit of all the shots seen so far from the set claimed to be of the young singer, the first of which surfaced last month.
The Veronicas record company to date have confirmed only one of the pictures is of Jess, and it's a shot that features no explicit nudity.

The National Enquirer report that Lynne alleges that, while insisting to the world she was saving her virginity till marriage, Britney had actually had sex for the first time with an 18-year-old high school football player when she was 14 years old.

A National Enquirer source says that Lynne had encouraged Britney's relationship with the older boy, believing it would make her daughter more popular.

Lynne is also said to claim that her daughter had started drinking alcohol shortly after joining TV's The Mickey Mouse Club, at age 13.

Shocking: We'd be as devo as Britney in this pic if our mum had blown the lid on our private lives like this
And it doesn't stop there - Lynne reportedly alleges in her book that Britney had started experimenting with drugs at 15 years of age, when travelling to LA to record her debut album Baby One More Time - and that cocaine and marijuana were found in her luggage when she boarded a private plane at age 16.

Lynne reportedly regrets letting her daughter be marketed as a raunchy teen sexpot.

"Lynne's book does a lot of soul-searching on the mistakes she made raising Britney and Jamie Lynn," a National Enquirer source said.

"She says if she had known helping her daughter Britney follow her dreams would cost her her soul, she would never have done it."

Hugh Grant's new girl

New Idea

Hugh Grant is reportedly romancing a former model who is 20 years his junior.

The 47-year-old actor was seen flirting with brunette Catherine Fulmer, 27, during a recent trip to The Hamptons, in New York state.

The ‘Notting Hill' star was first spotted chatting to Catherine - who now works as a fashion designer - on a local beach.

He was then seen fooling around with the beauty - who was dressed in a daring outfit of hotpants and a skimpy waistcoat - at the A Taste of Polo by Evian event, in The Hamptons, last Sunday.

A fellow partygoer said: "They were so cute and flirty. He got Catherine and several of her friends shots of tequila to celebrate the night."

It has been rumoured Hugh will now attend Catherine's show at New York Fashion Week, which is set to take place next week. Hugh's spokesman has denied claims he is dating the fashion designer, saying: "Someone's got their wires crossed. They met at a party and Hugh does not know her at all."

After three years together, Hugh split with Jemima Khan last year. He previously dated actress Elizabeth Hurley for 13 years, and remains close friends with her and her husband Arun Nayar.

Jennie Garth: 'I Wasn't Too Big' on Rejoining 90210

The star changed her mind because she "thought the fans would really like it"
Source: People.com
Who

She may be gearing up for a new stint on the new 90210, but Jennie Garth wasn't initially excited about reprising her role as Kelly Taylor.

"First I wasn't too big on the idea," Garth told Ryan Seacrest during an interview Tuesday on his KISS-FM radio show. "It took me a while to settle in with it."

What changed her mind?

"So many people are so dedicated to that show," she said. "If they're going to do a new show, I wanted to be there for the old fans of the original show ... I just thought the fans would really like it."

Of course fans are clamouring to hear how Garth and Shannen Doherty, the only other original 90210 cast member to return, are getting along on set. While the two famously feuded in the past, they have moved forward, Garth explains.

"It's so funny because everyone made such a big deal about us getting back together," she said. "But it was pretty silly if you step back and look at it. That was so long ago ... It definitely has to be water under the bridge or else you haven't gone everywhere in your life.

"We just really tried to come into it with a positive, fresh perspective," she continued.

While the two are the only original cast members attached to the new project, Garth hints that others may soon follow. (At one point, Tori Spelling said she was considering returning.) When pressed by Seacrest about specifics - the deejay asked if Jason Priestley would be back - Garth offered a promising hint.

"I think it might happen," she said.

Still, she cautioned, the new 90210 is not about nostalgia.

"If it's all the original cast members [returned], that's a different show," Garth told Seacrest. "Once it gets going people will really start to relate to these new characters."

Garth says working with the new bunch has been refreshing - and even a bit daunting at first.

"It makes me feel kind of old," Garth said, laughing. "But they're all big fans of [the original 90210]. They've of course watched all the shows on DVD. They've all been really sweet and excited."

Kate Hudson's fantastic divorce

New Idea
Kate Hudson says her divorce from Chris Robinson was the "best thing that ever happened" to her.

The ‘Fool's Gold' actress - who has a four-year-old son with Black Crowes frontman Chris - insists the couple's relationship has improved dramatically since their legal separation in October 2007.

She told an American magazine: "Look - Chris and I are still basically living together! We've figured it out. I mean, obviously, nothing's perfect, but I could never look at our divorce as a mistake. If anything, it's the best thing that ever happened to us."

The 29-year-old actress recently revealed she doesn't regret forsaking her partying years to have a child.

She said: "Am I going to look back and say, 'God, I wish I could have gone to that concert?' I'd rather be listening to my son sing songs. I'd rather be watching him sleep."

Despite having a series of failed relationships, including those with Lance Armstrong, Owen Wilson and Dax Shepard, Kate also admitted she still holds out hope she will find her soul mate.

She added: "Every girl wants a fairy-tale ending. And I believe it's possible. Absolutely."

Britney avoids embarrassment at MTV awards

ninemsn

PHOTOS: MTV madnessTHE FIX

Britney Spears has once again opened the MTV Video Music Awards — but thankfully this time there was no "live" performance.

Last year, Spears was widely mocked after a bizarre showing in which she forgot her lines and gyrated in a diamond-studded bikini.

This year, she opened the show with a comedic performance in which Superbad star Jonah Hill repeatedly tried to plant a kiss on her.

"Thankyou for all the love," Spears told the screaming audience, appearing much healthier than last year.

The pop star kept things short and sharp by quickly rushing through her three sentences, escaping the embarrassment of last September's three minutes of botched dance moves and awkward lip synching.

After introducing the night's opening act, pop star Rihanna performing her hit Disturbia, Spears was then called back to the stage to accept the Best Female Video Award for Piece Of Me.

She later returned to the stage for her second statue, with buddy Paris Hilton presenting her with the Best Pop Video award for the same song.

While Spears' acceptance speech was polished, the same could not be said for Hilton's hosting duties.

She received laughs from the crowd and an odd look from host Russell Brand when she struggled to locate which camera to speak into.

British comedian host Brand divided the crowd early with his edgy humour.

He received a round of applause when he pledged his support to presidential nominee Barack Obama, but appeared to lose some of the crowd when he said America is understanding enough for a black leader after already electing a "retarded cowboy" twice.

Brand then took aim at Sarah Palin's pregnant daughter Bristol and her hockey-playing boyfriend Levi Johnston.

"That boy will spend the rest of his life masturbating while wearing a condom," he said.

Linkin Park won the Best Rock Video award for Shadow Of The Day, while the Pussycat Dolls won for Best Dancing In A Video for hit single When I Grow Up.

Chris Brown claimed Best Male Video for With You and Lil Wayne's track Lollipop was named Best Hip Hop Video.

German band Tokio Hotel won Best New Artist.

Olympic champion Michael Phelps also made an appearance, speaking of his love for hip hop before introducing rapper Lil Wayne for a live performance.

Some of Hollywood's stars raised eyebrows in a bizarre red carpet arrival in Los Angeles.

The show lived up to its crazy reputation as rapper T-Pain arrived on the back of an elephant draped in gold silk.

The hip hop star also wore a giant red top hat just in case his peculiar ride went unnoticed.

Fellow hip hop personality Fatman Scoop clearly enjoyed the laid-back feel of the MTV Awards, arriving in boxer shorts and a white singlet.

The production, now in its 25th year, is known for pushing the boundaries and has featured several controversial incidents involving Spears.

Last year, Kanye West became involved in the Spears incident by claiming the music network exploited her when she was having personal issues.

In 2003, Madonna made headlines by passionately kissing Spears and Christina Aguilera at the end of their performance.

And a year earlier, Spears referred to Michael Jackson as her "artist of the millennium", leading the reclusive pop star to believe that he was the recipient of the non-existent "Artist of the Millennium Award".

"When I was a little boy growing up in Indiana if someone told me I'd be getting the artist of the millennium award, I'd have never believed it," a confused Jackson said.

Jennifer Lopez Reveals Details of Her Pregnancy

Source: People.com

Jennifer Lopez says she was "selfish" for the first time in her life while she was pregnant with twins Max and Emme, who are now six months old.

Midway through her pregnancy, Lopez had just finished her concert tour with husband Marc Anthony last fall when she told him she needed him to take the reins, she tells Elle magazine in its October issue cover story. "I said, 'I did the superwoman thing, I finished the tour - now I need you to take care of me,'" said Lopez, 39.

"'I love doing things for you; if I'm not cooking, then I'm picking out a shirt. But this is the first time in my life where I'm just going to be a little bit selfish,'" she told Anthony, who turns 40 on Sept. 16. "'I don't know if I'm going to have kids again, so I want it to be a beautiful experience. I don't want to have any drama. I want to just be smiling every day.'"

The actress, who is currently training for her first triathalon, says she and her husband of four years didn't worry when she didn't get pregnant right away. "We knew nothing was wrong with either one of us - I had been checked, and he had kids already," she told Elle. "I knew [that] something's not ready here, in my head or in my life, and when it is, I know it's going to happen."

As for the moment she realized she was pregnant, she reveals, "I was sitting down doing hair and makeup and I felt a flutter. The weirdest little ... flourish. My makeup artist said 'What's the matter?' I didn't say anything, but in my head, I was like, I have life inside me!"

Two weeks before giving birth, Lopez commissioned a special gift for her husband - a book of photos of herself. Says Lopez: "I was like, 'How am I going to rock this moment of my life? ... I felt very womanly. Marc was in a dream. He loved it."

Journey up Homer Simpson's backside

ninemsn

If you've watched every episode of The Simpsons you might think you've seen every facet of the yellow-skinned family. But the series has never been up Homer Simpson's backside... until now.

According to the New York Post, Homer will undergo a colonoscopy - a procedure that examines the bowel - in an upcoming instalment of the long-running animated sitcom.

The unusual storyline isn't just another one of the TV dad's wacky adventures: it's part of a special animated segment of Stand Up to Cancer, a cancer-awareness telethon airing across all the major US networks on September 5.

Marge Simpson accompanies Homer to his colonoscopy, where she reportedly makes an unexpected discovery while watching the procedure. "There's his wedding band!" she cries. "He told me he was getting it polished!"

Homer is no stranger to hospitals, having ducked in an out of hospitals over the course of the series: he's had open-heart surgery, donated one of his kidneys to his father, and spent several weeks in a coma after an April Fools Day prank went awry.

According to gossip blog Perez Hilton, Everybody Loves Raymond star Brad Garrett will have his prostate examined on live television as part of the telethon.

BB housemate 'terrorised bar staff'

By ninemsn staff
A pub worker said she thought she was going to die when a former Big Brother housemate allegedly went wild with a metal pole outside a Victorian pub.
Heath Tournier, 26, is facing charges of affray, recklessly causing injury, unlawful assault, assault by kicking and riotous behaviour stemming from a violent incident at the Torquay Hotel, near Geelong, in March last year.
Michelle Clifford, who was working at the hotel's door, said she feared for her life at the height of the brawl.
"I was s*** scared," Ms Clifford told the Geelong Magistrates Court yesterday, the Geelong Advertiser reports.
"I had myself in the foetal position in the corner."
Tournier punched and kneed a security guard in a wild brawl outside the hotel after being forcibly removed from the pub, it is alleged.
Ms Clifford alleges that when crowd controllers returned inside and locked the doors, Tournier returned with a weapon to terrorise the hotel staff.
"Then I saw Heath at the side window,'' she said.
"He had this massive big metal pole above his head swinging it towards the glass.
